Planting in Belarus to be completed by 9 May

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Planting in Belarus is to be completed by 9 May, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Grakun said at a press conference, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Grakun specified that agricultural workers will try to complete the spring sowing of early grain and leguminous crops within the next seven days, and the southern regions will finish this work by the end of the week. After that, the sowing of spring rapeseed and corn will begin. Planting of flax and sugar beets has already started.

According to the deputy minister, everything is in place to finish the work in time. It is important to observe the planting procedures and get a good return from the land, because this is what the future harvest will depend on.

Currently, the amount of mineral fertilizers accumulated is the same as last year, but by the end of May their amount will increase to 115%. Agricultural companies are provided with the necessary amount of disinfectants and herbicides in order to begin chemical weeding in a timely manner and to protect plants from pests.
