Plans to showcase Belarusian food at Russian expo Innoprom

MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – Belarusian food products will be showcased at the Innoprom expo, representatives of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

Although Innoprom is an industrial expo, the Belarusian side will organize a fair, in which three enterprises specializing in food production will take part. Domochay Company will present confectionery products (gingerbread, cookies, pastries). Minsk Dairy Plant No.1 will present dairy products and elite cheese while Grodno Meat Packing Plant will display a broad range of meat specialties. The choice will include raw smoked and dry-cured sausages as well as a lineup of meat products for children. Apart from that, visitors will be able to sample these products.

In 2022 trade in food and agricultural raw materials between Belarus and Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast totaled $90.7 million (170% as against 2021). Belarus’ export totaled $84.6 million (172.7%), with import at $6.1 million (140.5%).

The staple exports were milk and dairy products (69.7% of the total export), including cheese and quark cheese, butter, yoghurt, and kefir. Apart from that, Belarus exported fish and fish products, malt, melons and gourds, and sugar.

In 2022 Belarus increased deliveries of chocolate, pastry confectionery, and meat products by several times. The choice of Belarusian exports increased. About 50 kinds of products were exported for the first time. Apart from that, ZAO Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation started selling products, which are used to feed animals, to the Sverdlovsk Oblast market.

As many as 13 shops were opened in Yekaterinburg to sell Belarusian foods, including four shops in 2022. Belarusian foods are also sold via the retail chains Magnit and Pyaterochka.

In 2022 the main imports were fish and fish products, live poultry, products for making sauces and ready-made sauces, macaroni products, and vegetable oil.

In January-April 2023 trade in food and agricultural raw materials between Belarus and Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast totaled $28.2 million (145.5% as against January-April 2022). Belarus’ export totaled $25.1 million (141%), with import at $3.1 million (198.1%).

This year the main exports have been milk and dairy products, including cheese and quark cheese, butter, yoghurt, and kefir. Apart from that, Belarus exported tinned fish, malt, fruits, vegetables and products made by processing them, chocolate, meat products, and sugar. ZAO Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation sold amino acids to the Russian region. In 2023 the main imports have been fish and fish products, vegetable oil, products for making sauces and ready-made sauces, and pedigree chicks.

In January-April 2023 the choice of Belarusian exports increased in comparison with the same period of last year. It was the first time Belarus had shipped 26 kinds of products.

In June 2023 a Sverdlovsk Oblast delegation led by Agribusiness Complex and Consumer Market Minister Anna Kuznetsova visited Belarus. The delegation attended the international agricultural expo Belagro 2023.

As a result of the visit Belarus and Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast signed a plan to guide cooperation in 2023-2025. As part of the plan the sides intend to increase mutual trade in food and agricultural raw materials, expand the choice of exports and imports, and work on the possible participation of the Belarusian side in designing modern animal farms in Sverdlovsk Oblast and equipping them with the necessary milking, refrigerating, and other kinds of equipment. The sides will work on possible shipments of Belarusian veterinary medications to Sverdlovsk Oblast as well as seeds of agricultural crops of Belarusian selection, which are included in the Russian state registry of plant varieties. The sides will also continue cooperating in sharing the best practices in greenhouse farming.
