MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – Belarus intends to implement a number of major manufacturing cooperation projects in Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, BelTA learned from Belarusian Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Minister Aleksei Bogdanov before a session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Krasnodar Territory.

Aleksei Bogdanov said: “In Krasnodar Territory we are very broadly represented in all the spheres but mutual manufacturing cooperation in industrial manufacturing is on the agenda today. We already have component assembly of MTZ tractors. Today we will sign an agreement on starting similar projects to assemble harvesters, elevator equipment, and MAZ vehicles. These major investment projects will allow increasing our presence in Krasnodar Territory. In this region we are also represented in other fields. Belarusian foods are available virtually in every shop. Apart from that, there is a chain of proprietary shops selling light industry goods and other Belarusian goods.”

The antimonopoly regulation and trade minister reminded that a kind of an upgrade happened when a roadmap to guide cooperation between Belarus and Krasnodar Territory in 2023-2024 was worked out and signed in late 2022. Manufacturing cooperation was an important part of this document, including the establishment and development of assembly enterprises to make MTZ tractors, MAZ buses, Gomselmash harvesters, and Mogilevliftmash elevators.

“There are also plans to sell municipal vehicles and passenger vehicles, special vehicles and construction ones, pedigree products. Apart from that, Belarus is extremely interested in cooperation in seed breeding. Particularly with regard to sugar beet seeds. As for construction, the sides have arranged a number of visits and negotiations. Belarus is ready to participate in civil engineering projects, including the construction of social facilities such as kindergartens and schools. We have successful experience of work in this field in Russia,” the minister noted. Matters of water disposal, water purification, and exchange trade are also stipulated by the roadmap.

Three main topics have been selected for discussion during the working group’s session: manufacturing cooperation, interaction in agribusiness, and civil engineering. “I would like to thank our Russian friends and partners for interest in deepening manufacturing cooperation and further increase in cooperation with Belarus. There is a huge potential for the development of our bilateral relations. Foreign trade is traditionally the driver and the main indicator of our development. We have done well so far this year. According to the National Statistics Committee, in January-July 2023 mutual trade rose by a quarter to 24.8%. We are increasing export to this Russian region. We are also interested in import. A number of Krasnodar Territory products are in demand in Belarus: seeds of rapeseed and sunflower, citrus fruits, sunflower oil, tinned vegetables, rice, and other goods,” Aleksei Bogdanov said during the session.

Interregional cooperation develops actively. An agreement on twinning Minsk and Sochi will be signed today. “I am convinced that interaction at the level of cities and districts is capable of making a substantial positive contribution to further trade turnover growth,” the antimonopoly regulation and trade minister stressed.

Aleksei Bogdanov drew attention to the development and improvement of the legal base. “An updated agreement between the Belarus government and the Krasnodar Territory administration on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation will be signed at a meeting hosted by the prime minister today. I am convinced that the Krasnodar Territory delegation’s visit to Belarus will contribute to our reaching new heights in trade and economic interaction and will also contribute to the successful realization of new joint projects,” the official concluded.
