MTZ tractor exports to Egypt up 2.3 times in 2014

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ trademark) increased its supplies to Egypt by almost 2.3 times in 2014, BelTA learnt from the Industry Ministry.

“In 2014 MTZ exported over 1375 items of its equipment worth almost $20 million to Egypt. In 2015 the company plans to open its office in Egypt,” the Industry Ministry noted.

Egypt is the biggest market for MTZ on the African continent. “Since the supplies were started in 1965, the Belarusian plant has shipped about 40,000 tractors there,” the Industry Ministry stressed.

The press service of the industry unveiled the company’s plans to increase the supplies of tractors to Sudan and tractor sets to Algeria. The company will continue its work in Nigeria and the Republic of South Africa where MTZ representation offices were opened in 2014. The Belarusian tractor producer will continue supplies to Congo and Morocco, resume deliveries of tractor sets to Ethiopia.

The MTZ commodity distribution network in Africa comprises four assembly plants and 15 dealers. The company’s exports to the African countries in 2014 will make up nearly $30 million, up 24.7% to 2013.

According to the Industry Ministry, Minsk Tractor Works and Vietnam’s Mekong Machinery signed a contract not long ago. According to it, the Belarusian company will ship 150 tractors worth $2.6 million to Vietnam in 2015. The parties talked over the possibility of setting up a joint training center at one of the agricultural universities of Vietnam.

Minsk Tractor Works was founded in 1946. It is part of the system of enterprises run by the Belarusian Industry Ministry. The company offers over 60 models and modifications of tractors and vehicles with over 100 options for all kinds of climatic and operational conditions. For the last few years MTZ has kept an 8-10% share of the global market of wheeled tractors. MTZ operates in over 60 countries and has assembly enterprises in Russia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, China, Romania, Egypt, Serbia, Algeria, Venezuela, and other countries. The industrial group MTZ comprises 11 enterprises. In 2014 MTZ conducted foreign trade operations with 71 countries. The company’s exports totaled nearly $690 million.
