Lukashenko: It is premature to introduce private land ownership

Lukashenko: It is premature to introduce private land ownershipMINSK, 3 February (BelTA) - Introducing private land ownership is premature, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with the members of the public, representatives of the Belarusian and foreign mass media on 3 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state believes there should be no hurry in this matter. “We are not ready for it. Land can be leased for a long period of time. Anyone is welcome to lease land and work. They say that once land is in private ownership, it cannot be taken away. This is not true: if you violate the law, the land will be taken away. Our legislation envisages the forfeiture of property,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President believes it is needless to dwell on this issue. “We have everything necessary to work in the right and fair way. If you lease land for farming or housing construction, you are welcome to do it. But please do not cheat. Our land is well-managed. Everyone sees it,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
