MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) - Kazakhstan is showing interest in expanding industrial cooperation with Belarus, outlining six major projects on manufacturing localization, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Belarus Yerlan Baizhanov said as he presented credentials to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 28 September, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, the bilateral cooperation development strategy has been unchanged for many years: “These are the relations of strategic partnership between the states and strengthening friendship between the peoples.”

Prior to presenting his credentials to the Belarusian president, Yerlan Baizhanov had already traveled as an ambassador to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, during the recent visit of the Belarusian delegation led by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko. “I took part in the negotiations. In fact, the two prime ministers outlined the whole economic program for me here. This is the growth of industrial cooperation, mutual investment, trade, opening of joint productions, expansion of the network of Belarusian stores in Kazakhstan. Belarusian products are in demand. Therefore, we welcome progress in all areas of our cooperation,” the ambassador said.

In his words, the potential of bilateral cooperation is very high, and this year there has been a significant increase in mutual trade. In January-July 2023 it amounted to $700 million and by the end of the year the mutual trade is likely to significantly exceed the mark of $1 billion.

“The talks held in Astana were aimed, among other things, at the growth of trade. And not only at this. The most important thing Kazakhstan is interested in is industrial cooperation - advanced, technologically developed Belarusian companies. Especially in machine building. They are getting the green light in Kazakhstan. Six more major projects on manufacturing localization have been outlined. Our main interest is in investment. This will bear fruit, including in trade relations,” the diplomat said.
