MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – The grain harvest campaign in Belarus is over, BelTA learned from deputy head of the main department, head of the crop production department of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry Vasily Yadlovsky.

“The grain harvest is over. There is still buckwheat and millet, and also a part of grain legumes are left to crop in Vitebsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast,” Vasily Yadlovsky said. Buckwheat is usually harvested in September.

As of 27 August, grains and legumes were removed from the area of nearly 1.97 million hectares. All in all, the country harvested 5.19 million tonnes of grain (7.18 million tonnes on the same date last year), with an average yield of 26.4 centners per hectare (35.7 centners per hectare last year). The weather during the current harvesting campaign was inclement. The biggest contributors to the grain harvest was Minsk Oblast (1.3 million tonnes) and Brest Oblast (926,000 tonnes).
