China interested in Belarus’ participation in New Silk Road project

BEIJING, 5 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ opinion about its participation in the new project Silk Road Economic Belt is important for China, BelTA learned from Zhao Huirong, the head of a department at the Institute of Russian, East European & Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Zhao Huirong believes that the state visit of the Chinese President to Belarus will facilitate the search for the common interests of the two countries within the framework of the project Silk Road Economic Belt. The matter will be discussed during the high-level meetings in Minsk. “The visit of Xi Jinping to Minsk is very important for this project,” she noted.

Zhao Huirong emphasized that high-level visits are of great importance for the development of the Belarus-China cooperation. For example, many agreements were signed during the visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Beijing in 2013. Those agreements helped Belarus and China raise their cooperation to a new level.

“The new China-initiated project Silk Road Economic Belt is a strategic plan of state development. It is aimed at bolstering the development of China and strengthening its cooperation with the countries of Europe and Asia, including Belarus. The main goal of the plan is to foster the stability and prosperity of China through interregional cooperation,” Zhao Huirong explained.
