Belarusian commodity exchange registers first kiwi purchase transaction

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has registered the first exchange transaction to purchase 40 tonnes of fresh kiwis, BelTA has learned from the BUCE press service.
Six supplying companies participated in the bidding, and the buyer was one of the major domestic food industry enterprises.
According to the press service, the new exchange commodity transaction was the result of systemic work to expand the range of fruit and vegetable products on the exchange platform. Previously, food industry enterprises have purchased fresh pears, peaches, plums, potatoes, carrots, garlic and onions on BUCE. Meanwhile, these commodities are sold on a sessional basis, allowing traders to cover their needs in raw materials promptly.
“Trading in fruit and vegetables, groceries and food raw materials is among the BUCE priorities in the agricultural segment. It affects the interests of all food producers in the country. Therefore, this year BUCE will pay special attention, firstly, to further expansion of the commodity classification, and secondly, to attracting additional participants. In 2023, exchange transactions to purchase/sell vegetables, fruit, groceries and food raw materials were regularly made by about 170 economic entities. Complex food additives, soy protein isolate, wheat gluten, enzyme preparations, cocoa powder and beef protein were in the highest demand. These commodities accounted for 59% of the total amount of transactions. As for the fruit and vegetable sector alone, fresh peaches, pears and onions were last year's sales leaders," BUCE said.
BICE holds trading sessions in food raw materials, groceries and fruit and vegetable products twice a week. On sale are fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and dried fruits, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, starch, gelatin, confectionery fat, citric acid, baking soda, kvass wort, spices, and other raw materials and additives demanded in the food industry. Moreover, if there are purchase requests, BUCE holds bidding with a presentation of product samples once a week.
