Belarusian BelAZ rolls out two import-independent haul trucks

Belarusian BelAZ rolls out two import-independent haul trucks

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian heavy truck manufacturer BelAZ has created two import-independent haul trucks with the carrying capacity of 90 tonnes and 220 tonnes, BelTA learned from BelAZ Deputy Director General for Strategic Development and Corporate Management Aleksei Grachev.

Aleksei Grachev said: “After sanctions were introduced, we lost access to over 1,500 components. Back then we had to accomplish an ambitious task: to ensure technological independence of our products while preserving the entire lineup of mining vehicles and special vehicles. Now we can confidently say we’ve accomplished the task, including with assistance of partners from Russia.”

The executive mentioned several significant projects, which are in various stages of trials. They are supposed to be presented in the field soon. One of the projects is in the most popular segment: vehicles with the carrying capacity of under 90 tonnes. It is a haul truck BelAZ-75588 powered by a gas turbine engine made by a factory based in the Russian city of Kaluga. “We intend to complete trialing this vehicle in Q2 2023. Field tests will begin then. As a result of the field tests we will decide on serial production and sales to customers,” Aleksei Grachev said. “We’ve also created a haul truck BelAZ-7513M with a hybrid power plant in the carrying capacity segment of 130 tonnes. It uses a batch-produced engine made by Yaroslavl Motor Plant. The vehicle employs a small-capacity engine and accumulators. It is completely independent from imports.”

According to the BelAZ deputy director general, the most expected novelty of the year in the 220 tonne segment is the haul truck BelAZ-75304 with an engine from the Russian city of Kolomna. “The haul truck is going through final tests in the company’s experimental shop. We strongly hope it will be shipped to the customer in Russia in April where the vehicle will continue field tests. We hope that after that the customer will be ready to decide on ordering 20 or more of such haul trucks, which will be delivered starting next year,” Aleksei Grachev summarized.

In 2022 BelAZ’s share on the Russian market of haul trucks of large and extremely large carrying capacities was 82.3%. Last year BelAZ shipped over $800 million worth of products to the Russian Federation, including 843 haul trucks with the carrying capacity varying from 30 tonnes to 360 tonnes. In January-February 2022 the company shipped about $153 million worth of products to Russia, including 144 vehicles.
