Belarus, Tajikistan sign $16m worth of contracts at business council

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – Dushanbe hosted the 16th meeting of the Belarus-Tajikistan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation on 28 September. The meeting was chaired by Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Sergei Bartosh and his Tajikistan’s counterpart Qurbon Hakimzoda, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation included more than 60 representatives of enterprises and organizations. The parties considered trends in trade and economic cooperation, interaction in industrial cooperation, light industry, supplies of woodworking products, foodstuffs and pharmaceutical products.

The co-chairpersons of the intergovernmental commission signed the protocol of the meeting to stipulate issues related of cooperation in agriculture, food and personnel training for the agro-industrial complex, industrial cooperation, light industry, transportation, cooperation in education and science, healthcare and social protection, culture, sports and tourism, interregional cooperation.
Dushanbe also hosted a meeting of the Belarus-Tajikistan Business Council, organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries. As BelTA learned from the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI), the parties praised the positive trend in Belarus-Tajikistan business relations, the interest of both countries in expanding partnership ties, readiness to promote and deepen cooperation between business circles on the part of chambers of commerce and industry, government agencies and diplomatic missions.

According to BelCCI Deputy Chairman Denis Meleshkin, the business council is an important platform to improve the efficiency of business relations between organizations of Belarus and Tajikistan, as well as identify and overcome barriers to the expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

“The Belarusian delegation to Tajikistan comprises heads and representatives of 24 Belarusian enterprises and organizations from all regions of the country. These are the flagships of the Belarusian industry, which are well-known in Tajikistan, as well as representatives of small and medium-sized businesses who want to find new partners. It is obvious that Belarusian business has a real interest in cooperation and has something to offer. That is why contracts and agreements will be signed at the end of the meeting,” Denis Meleshkin said.

For even more active development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the BelCCI deputy chairman suggested that representatives of the business community of Tajikistan organize a national exhibition in Belarus, as well as take part in major exhibition projects in Belarus this year and next year - the Belarusian Industrial and Innovation Forum, the specialized agricultural exhibition BELAGRO, the international forum and exhibition of information technologies TIBO and others.

The official part of the meeting ended with the signing of 13 bilateral documents - cooperation agreements and contracts for the supply of products totaling over $16 million. Representatives of the business community of Belarus and Tajikistan continued active work in the format of B2B negotiations
