Belarus, Russia’s St. Petersburg show interest in expanding cooperation

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia’s St. Petersburg are interested in expanding areas and forms of cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government following a working meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik and St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.

Belarusian Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik also attended the talks .

According to the press service, the parties praised continuing positive trends in mutual trade this year, as well as the interest in expanding areas and forms of cooperation.

One of Belarus’ largest image projects in St. Petersburg should be the construction of a multi-brand center for the sale of Belarusian machinery. Piotr Parkhomchik emphasized Belarus’ readiness to implement the project and expressed confidence that it would become one of the landmark examples of partnership relations between Belarus and St. Petersburg.

Among the most important topics of the talks was the participation of Belarusian manufacturers in the large-scale transportation reform of St. Petersburg. In 2021-2022, MAZ delivered about 890 gas buses MAZ-206 and MAZ-203 to the northern capital of Russia. About 140 diesel buses of large capacity MAZ-203047 were delivered last year. This year the contract for delivery of more than 100 diesel buses of large capacity MAZ-203047 and 140 diesel buses of extra large capacity MAZ-216047 is under execution.

The parties paid attention to the issues of improving the quality of service support and technical support of MAZ passenger vehicles. To this end, plans are in place to organize a separate regional spare parts warehouse, set up a technical support center and units, and also a group of technical control over the condition of vehicles when they are put on the line.

The parties also plan to continue cooperation on supplies of Belarusian trolleybuses and elevators. At present St. Petersburg is preparing a tender to purchase 40 BKM electric buses (night charging, linked).

Piotr Parkhomchik and Aleksandr Rogozhnik visited the facilities of Passazhiravtotrans - St. Petersburg Bus Park No.3 and Kolpino Bus Park to get familiar with the organization of maintenance of Belarusian passenger vehicles. The deputy prime minister and the minister also took part in a ceremony to donate MAZ-257S40 school buses to the Government of St. Petersburg as part of Belarus’ participation in the implementation of the transport reform.
