Belarus’ potato harvest reaches 257,000 tonnes

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus has already cropped 256,600 tonnes of potatoes, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 19 September, some 7,482,500 tonnes of grain was cropped in the country. This included 6,223,100 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and 1,031,700 tonnes of rapeseed.

Harvesting of corn for grain is underway in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast, with 11,700 hectares of land already cleared. Some 86,600 tonnes of grain was threshed, with the yields averaging 73.9 centners per hectare.

Some 9,381,900 tonnes of corn for silage were cropped so far.

In addition to that, 37,500 tonnes of buckwheat (yields are 14.8 centners per hectare) and 17,100 tonnes of millet (yields reach 19.2 centners per hectare) were threshed.

The flax straw harvest reached 102,900 tonnes.

Cereal and legume straws were harvested from 82.3% of the area.

Belarusian agricultural workers have harvested some 256,600 tonnes of potatoes. The yields average 352.9 centners per hectare. 

Sugar beet harvesting is underway in Belarus. Some 706,300 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields reaching up to 449.9 centners per hectare.
