Belarus’ PM outlines key avenues of cooperation with Murmansk Oblast

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko outlined promising avenues of cooperation with Murmansk Oblast during his meeting with the region’s governor Andrei Chibis, BelTA has learned.

“In 2022 the trade with Murmansk Oblast reached a record of $286 million, nearly three times as much as in 2021. Belarus’ export to and import from Murmansk Oblast increased manifold. This trend remained in place in the first quarter of this year: the mutual trade amounted to about $77 million, up more than 3.5 times year-on-year. The pace is high. Our task is to maintain momentum by promoting  cooperation in traditional areas and exploring new niches. I am convinced that this is in the best interests of both parties,” said Roman Golovchenko.

One of the areas of cooperation is the supply of passenger vehicles. “The implementation of the contract to supply Belkommunmash trolleybuses to Murmansk will begin in the second half of the year. We are ready to keep delivering this type of transport in the future. The same pertains to buses. MAZ seeks to win a tender for the supply of buses and will be ready to fulfill additional orders,” the prime minister said.

Another area of cooperation is the supply of elevators. “Belarusian elevators are well known in Murmansk Oblast. We have big plans to participate in the region’s elevator replacement programs. We are ready to keep helping our Murmansk friends with replacing elevator equipment. Of course, we are eager to supply the most advanced Belarus-made elevators, escalators and moving walkways for the new Murmansk airport terminal,” the Belarusian head of government said.

Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation in agriculture. “First of all, we are ready to diversify our deliveries. Taking into consideration that Murmansk Oblast has a well-developed fishing industry, the supply of fish feed produced by the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation seems very promising. We are ready to step up supplies taking into account specific needs of the region,” Roman Golovchenko assured.

In his opinion, cooperation potential in the construction sector is not utilized in full. “We could cooperate in many ways: we could supply building materials, take part in projects to build industrial and social infrastructure facilities and housing,” the prime minister noted.
