Belarus plans to export food to various African countries

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Belarus has plans to export foodstuffs to various countries of Africa, Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats told journalists, BelTA has learned.

“Zimbabwe is a new market for us. We are taking the first steps to build cooperation with our partner. I would like to say that cooperation with Africa goes beyond Zimbabwe. More than a billion people live there, so we plan to enter the markets of various African countries. Nothing stands in our way today. In addition to export, Belarus offers its technologies for processing and preparing products,” said Leonid Zayats.

The deputy prime minister emphasized that Belarus already supplies food products to Africa, but in small volumes. “Logistics between our countries is really expensive, but we will discuss ways to cut costs. Belarus is ramping up its food production, so it is important to sell products faster and get revenues sooner,” the deputy prime minister added.

According to him, Belarus cooperates with Africa in the manufacturing sector as well. Thus, Belarusian tractors, forage and grain harvesters, MAZ and BelAZ equipment are sold in Africa.

The Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus is holding talks with a Zimbabwean delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, Climate and Rural Development Vangelis Haritatos. Taking part in the meeting are Belarus’ leading meat and dairy producers. In addition, an exhibition of food products has been organized at the ministry for the foreign delegation.
