Belarus, Pakistan mulling over joint assembling of Belarusian tractors

Belarus, Pakistan mulling over joint assembling of Belarusian tractors

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are considering an opportunity to set up a plant to assemble Belarusian tractors, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told the media at the opening of the fifth meeting of the Belarus-Pakistan Business Council on 5 October, BelTA has learned.

“Today we are hosting a big event and, of course, such meetings of the business community affect both the volume of our trade and export supplies, which is very important for us. Last year was not very successful for obvious reasons, but this year is showing good dynamics. For example, exports grew 63% in January-June. I think we will post good figures this year, because the potential for cooperation is huge,” the BelCCI head said.

According to Vladimir Ulakhovich, Pakistan imports some $47 billion worth of products annually, and Belarus, in his words, can be an important partner for Pakistan in this regard. “The country knows Belarusian machines, the tractor “Belarus” in particular. Today we are discussing the opportunity to set up a facility to assemble Belarusian tractors. We are talking about assembling 10,000 tractors a year in Pakistan. This project is now in progress and preliminary documents have been signed. We see the possibility of setting up joint ventures in the pharmaceutical sector and, of course, in food production,” said the BelCCI chairman.

According to Vladimir Ulakhovich, more than 60 companies from Pakistan are taking part in the event. “Their decision to come here in the conditions of COVID-related restrictions speaks a lot. They represent 10 major industries, including chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food production, construction, transport, logistics, tourism and others. This is a wide list of industries we can cooperate in,” he said.

Representatives of about 100 Belarusian companies are taking part in the event.
