Belarus marks progress in talks with China on trade in services agreement

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) - Belarus and China have made progress in the negotiations on an agreement on free trade in services and investment, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

Inter-session consultations between the Belarusian Economy Ministry and the Ministry of Commerce of China took place on 16 May as part of the negotiations on the agreement.

Taking part in the meeting on Belarus’ behalf were representatives of the Operations and Analysis Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus, the National Center for Personal Data Protection and a number of ministries (Finance Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Communications and Informatization Ministry).

The focus was on the transfer and processing of data in financial activities. The parties also considered mutual requests for access to the service markets of the two countries.

According to the Economy Ministry, the parties managed to significantly reduce the list of uncoordinated issues on the topics under consideration. It is expected that the bilateral agreement will be signed by the end of 2023.
