MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Belarus has cropped 7 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Grakun told the media on 30 August, BelTA has learned.

“As of 30 August, 97% of the area under grain and leguminous crops (except corn) was cleared in Belarus. Over 6,977,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, was cropped. By noon the harvest already reached 7 million tonnes, including rapeseed,” Vladimir Grakun said.

Harvesting is nearing completion. “Late-harvested cereal crops like buckwheat and millet still remain in the field. As of this morning, more than 5,000 tonnes of buckwheat was threshed,” the deputy minister said.

According to him, the amount of grain is enough to meet state procurement, which is to provide the population with bread, to replenish the seed fund (more than 800,000 tonnes), to supply grain to the brewing industry (100,000 tonnes), as well as for grain alcohol production (150,000 tonnes). The remaining volumes will provide the public livestock with forage grain.

“Poultry farms and pig farms, which will not be able to purchase the necessary volumes of grain of the Belarusian harvest, are entitled to make the purchase abroad, according to the decree of the Council of Ministers. However, we see that we have enough grain,” Vladimir Grakun said.
