Belarus' foreign trade at $14.8bn in January-February 2023

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – In January-February 2023 Belarus' foreign trade totaled $14.8 billion which corresponds to the same period a year prior, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

The dynamics of foreign trade testifies to the adaptation of the Belarusian economy to the new conditions and the successful reorientation of export/import flows.

Positive trends were observed in foreign trade in goods: their exports went up by 5.4% in February 2023 over January 2023 and by 6.3% over February 2022 and amounted to $3.2 billion.

At the same time, import of goods (worth $3.3 billion) rose by 4.5% over January 2023 and decreased by 1.4% over February 2022. The deficit of foreign trade in goods decreased from $172.4 million in January 2023 to $153 million in February 2023. In January-February 2023, the deficit made up $325.4 million.

The main contributor to the foreign trade surplus was foreign trade in services. In January-February 2023, its surplus amounted to $459.8 million.

Despite the sanctions pressure, Belarus still posted a surplus in foreign trade in goods and services in January-February 2023. It totaled $134.4 million.
