MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) - Belarusian agricultural workers plan to get at least 9 million tonnes of grain this agricultural season, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Plant Industry of the Agriculture and Food Ministry - Head of the Department of Plant Industry of the Agriculture and Food Ministry Ivan Kaskevich said in a new episode of BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project.

Based on climatic and weather conditions, last year's experience and certain risks, the Agriculture and Food Ministry expects to receive at least 9 million tonnes of grain in weight after processing, and also at least 1 million tonnes of colza in net weight (about 1.2 million tonnes in bunker weight).

“We plan to get at least 5 million tonnes of sugar beet, 55,000 tonnes of flax fiber (at the level of the previous year), 568,000 tonnes for vegetables, 225,000 tonnes of fruit and berry, 9.8 million tonnes of grass fodder,” Ivan Kaskevich said.

The specialist also emphasized that farmers have everything they need for a good harvest this year, including equipment and workforce. Warm spring also made its contribution by prompting early start to the sowing season, with combines rolling into fields three weeks earlier than normal.
