Belarus eager to increase trade with Hungary

Belarus eager to increase trade with Hungary

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarus expects an increase in trade with Hungary. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik made the statement at a session of the Belarus-Hungary intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Budapest on 12 April, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Aleinik said: “At all stages of interaction over 30 years of cooperation Belarus has always been a stable and predictable partner. We have always been open to cooperation. We’ve developed and continue developing dynamic ties and are ready to put efforts into continuing this work. By the way, it is evidenced by progress in realizing the agreements, which were reached during a previous session of our commission in May 2020.”

Sergei Aleinik pointed out that the previous period had been complicated for mutual trade from the political point of view and it is easy to explain why trade figures have slumped and do not meet the existing potential for cooperation.

With this in mind Sergei Aleinik believes that today it is particularly important to discuss the areas where Belarus and Hungary could step up trade and economic interaction. He described accomplishments in cooperation in agriculture, civil engineering, and tourism as significant. By the way, the dialogue has reached the level of bilateral working groups in many avenues of cooperation. The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs believes there is potential in the sphere of information technologies and in scientific and technical cooperation.

Sergei Aleinik said: “I hope the protocol resulting from the commission’s session will become kind of a roadmap for our cooperation.”
