Belarus, China’s Hong Kong to develop economic ties

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China are set to develop trade and economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in China.

The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission to China Yuri Senko and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee discussed the expansion of contacts. The parties discussed issues related to trade, economic, financial, interbank, investment, and humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.

Among other things, they discussed the implementation of joint projects at the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China is one of the world's leading financial centers. Until 1997, it was a British colony. Population is 7.3 million people. GDP in 2022 was $363,4 billion, $49,400 per capita. The service industry accounts for about 93% of GDP, due to which its economy is considered the most “service-oriented” in the world. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is one of the world’s largest, listing 2,234 companies with a total capitalization of $4.46 trillion.
