MOSCOW, 30 June (BelTA) - Belarus, together with Russia, work on a daily basis to counter illegal Western sanctions, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi told the media after a ceremony to lay a wreath at the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall in Moscow to mark the 79th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from Nazi invaders and Belarus' Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

"There are many indicators attesting to the success of this work. One of them is the growth of the Belarusian economy. We are back on growth track, our exports are on the rise," Ambassador Dmitry Krutoi noted.

Speaking about bilateral relations with Russia, the ambassador stated that it was the Russian market that became the main one for Belarus. "We have managed to redirect our commodity flows, including using the logistics capabilities of the Russian Federation. We have record figures in bilateral trade: we have never had such a trade in history. In January-May of this year, we added another 20% to this high base. If this pace remains in place that we will hit another record high trade [by the end of 2023]," he said.

The diplomat also said that unfriendly countries used to account for 40% of Belarus' trade. Now their share is only 5%. "Yet our economy is growing," Ambassador Dmitry Krutoi noted.

According to him, now the share of the Russian and Belarusian ruble in the settlements in trade between Belarus and Russia is 89%. "We have actually moved away from the dollar and the euro, but now we have begun to add the yuan," the diplomat stressed.

"The task set by the president is ambitious, namely to double our presence in the Russian market and implement as many joint cooperation projects as possible," the Belarusian diplomat summed up.
