MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Sanctions are not going to disrupt the planting effort in Belarus, Deputy Head of the Directorate - Head of the Plant Production Department of the Agriculture and Food Ministry Ivan Kaskevich told BelTA's project The Nation Speaks.

“Business is like water in the sand: it will always find a way,” noted Ivan Kaskevich. “The thing is that the sanctions have had their toll and deliveries are not so fast, but issues related to seeds and spare parts are being resolved. We have no unresolved problems today, because people there also want to do business and try to survive in this rather complicated situation. Research institutes and scientific centers are involved, the academy makes a big contribution, providing us with a full range of domestic seeds,” the official said.

There will be enough fertilizers, the country is self-sufficient in this product. “This year, almost 1.2 million tonnes will be needed. In line with approved schedules, we must deliver up to 97% of the necessary amount from domestic enterprises by May. The leaders in this indicator are Grodno Oblast and Brest Oblast. We are working on it with factories and regional executive committees on a daily basis. There are  grounds to believe that the planting period will proceed smoothly and effectively in 2024,” Ivan Kaskevich noted.
