Agriculture, industry named Pakistan’s key points of interest in Belarus

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Agriculture and industry are Pakistan’s areas of key interest in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan told the media after his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus has a lot of experience in agriculture and industry. These are key points of interest for Pakistan, including the establishment of joint ventures in the country,” Sajjad Haider Khan said.

According to the ambassador, an assembly plant of Minsk Tractor Plant will be set up in Pakistan. There are several similar projects on the cooperation agenda. In addition, Pakistan is interested in setting up joint ventures to process dairy products.

“Pakistan plans the construction of nine special economic zones, four of which are almost ready. These zones will be located in the Pakistan-China economic corridor and may also be of interest for joint projects with Belarus. We attach great importance to intensification of contacts between the business circles of the two countries. This is a key element of our bilateral cooperation,” the diplomat said.

In his words, cooperation in education and culture is promising for Belarus and Pakistan.

In 2021, the trade between Belarus and Pakistan amounted to $92.6 million, up more than 77% against 2020. Belarus posted a trade surplus of $63.6 million. The bulk of Belarusian exports included tractors and spare parts, potash fertilizers, specific goods, synthetic threads, cellulose, dairy products, medicines, and diesel engines.

“Currently the trade is rather low, given the economic potential of the two countries. We intend to make every effort to increase it in the future,” Sajjad Haider Khan stressed.
