Epiphany in Belarus
Belarusian believers celebrated one of the most important Orthodox holidays, Epiphany (Baptism of Christ) on 19 January. The churches of Belarus held services and molebens and conducted the rite of blessing the water. In ancient times people believed that water acquired healing properties on the Epiphany night and was able to clean not only the body but also the soul from sins. This is why one of the most remarkable rites is ablution, the Epiphany bathing in ice cold water traditionally held on the eve of the great feast. Video
