MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus and China are building closer relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said on 25 September at a reception in Minsk to mark the 74th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, BelTA reports.

“Trade and economic cooperation is generating more and more real benefits. From January to August 2023, trade between China and Belarus reached $5.83 billion, up by approximately 97% year-on-year. The import from Belarus to China was estimated at $1.99 billion, up by more than 65%, and the export from China to Belarus stood at $3.85 billion, up by almost 119%. China has become the second largest trading partner of Belarus, and Belarus, in turn, has become an important trading partner for China in the Eurasian region. The number of resident companies in the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, which is the ‘pearl’ of the Belt and Road Initiative, has reached 114; the volume of declared investment exceeds $1.3 billion,” said Xie Xiaoyong.

Relations between the two nations are becoming closer. Brand events in the field of culture, such as Tea for World Harmony and China Tourism and Culture Week, were a great success. The number of students on academic exchange programs in the two countries continues to grow. The Chinese language courses are getting increasingly popular in Belarus,” the ambassador added. “Cooperation in education, science and technology, culture, healthcare and other areas continues to bear fruit, promoting mutual understanding and alignment between the two peoples,” the diplomat added.

“Being on the cusp of a new stage in bilateral relations, China-Belarus cooperation has a bright future and amazing prospects,” Xie Xiaoyong emphasized. “I am ready to put in my best efforts together with Belarusian friends to implement the important agreements reached by the two heads of state, strengthen political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and long-standing friendship, jointly build an even better future for China-Belarus relations and contribute to the formation of a new type of international relations and the Community of Common Destiny.
