Senator: Time for the EU to address migrant crisis on Belarus’ border via dialogue

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The time has come for the European Union to deal with the migrant crisis on the border with Belarus through dialogue, member of the Council of the Republic Vladimir Kotovich told BelTA.

“The Belarusian authorities and our people have done a lot to support refugees stranded on the territory of Belarus. After all, with faith and mutual assistance we can overcome any ordeals. We believe that good judgment, benevolence, common sense will eventually prevail over this havoc wreaked on women, children and the elderly. Fear of losses, wars and bloodshed are deeply entrenched in the genetic memory of Belarusians. At the same time, our people have a strong spirit, they are independent and believe in justice. That is why our people do not leave anyone out in the cold, they try to help and support people in need,” Vladimir Kotovich said.

The increase in refugee numbers along all borders of the European Union is the result of the U.S. policy in the Middle East. “What the Polish security forces are doing in relation to refugees runs afoul of the international law. Had the Polish authorities acted in accordance with generally accepted procedures from the very beginning of the crisis, it would not have gone that far. This crisis is just a cover for the Polish authorities to conceal other problems. The time has come for the European Union to solve the problem on the border with Belarus, and do it through dialogue,” the senator added.
