PM: Belarusian economy proves resilient, adaptable to external shocks

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) - The Belarusian economy has proved resilient and adaptable to external shocks, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting in the Oval Hall of the Government House with members of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic to consider the draft laws "On the national budget 2024" and "On amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Belarus", BelTA has learned.

"As a result of the measures that we have taken, the economy has become resilient and adaptable to external shocks despite all the restrictions. The economic growth maintains momentum. Since May, GDP has been growing monthly. In January-September, GDP went up by 3.5%," Roman Golovchenko said.

He also stressed that industrial enterprises operate steadily. In January-September, the production of TV sets more than doubled, that of cars rose 3.8 times, trucks - by a third, dump trucks - by 9%, washing machines - by 30%, elevators - by 7%, footwear- by 13%.

"In January-September, investment activity was recovering. Capital investments surged by almost 12%, the volume of construction and installation work increased by more than 6%, expenses on new machinery and equipment soared by 27.4%. Measures are being taken to find sources and mechanisms for investment financing of infrastructure projects. The necessary decisions by the head of state on the financing of social objects of the national and regional investment programs, housing and roads have been prepared," the prime minister said.

More than 1,700km of roads have been repaired, 7 bridge structures have been reconstructed. This year, sports and recreation centers were put into operation in the towns of Fanipol and Uzda. One of the largest schools (for 1,500 children) opened in Grodno. Six new kindergartens were built, the construction of a new polyclinic of the Nesvizh Central District Hospital was completed, four district hospitals were reconstructed (in Polotsk, Lyakhovichi, Kamenets and Drogichin). By 7 November, a new polyclinic in Grodno and the radiological unit of the Mogilev Regional Oncology Center will be put into operation. "This is not a complete list," the head of government added.
