Opinion: Belarus, China establish strategic partnership thanks to presidents’ friendship, sincerity

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) - Belarus and China have established a strategic partnership thanks to the friendship of the leaders of the two countries and their sincerity, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov told the media, BelTA has learned.

“Often journalists get bogged down by numbers in relations between the countries, but trends are still important. Last year proved a good saying to be true: A friend in need is a friend indeed,” said Nikolai Snopkov.

“There are two basic foundations that make the level of the strategic partnership between Belarus and China so high. The first is the friendship between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping. This is the cementing basis of the friendship [between Belarus and China]. The second one is the Belarusians' ability to be sincere friends. Our Chinese friends feel it when you treat them sincerely, when your friendship really comes from the heart and when it does not. Belarusians are able to be friends, they will give everything they can when a friend is in need,” said the first deputy prime minister.

He stressed that the friendly relations were also demonstrated during the COVID-19 outbreak last year. The first plane with humanitarian aid to China was sent by Belarus.

“Another point is the recent political events, a color-revolution attempt in Belarus and China's position, which was once again confirmed during the phone conversation between the Belarusian president and Xi Jinping that the Chinese people and leadership support the authorities and wish to ensure the choice of Belarus' future exclusively based on the decisions of the Belarusian people,” Nikolai Snopkov said.

As for the economic cooperation prospects, the first deputy prime minister sees great potential for Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. “The Chinese economy will continue growing, and of course we will be growing together in our export positions,” he said.
