Lukashenko: Over 87% of people support incumbent government

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – The incumbent government enjoys the support of more than 87% of people in Belarus. However, some issues remain unresolved and the government intends to address them, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with CIS Secretary General and head of the CIS observation mission at Belarus’ elections Sergei Lebedev on 26 February, BelTA has learned.

“Based on my experience, we are trying to analyze the course of this campaign. And we see that the current government is supported by more than 87% of the population. These voters definitely support it. There are a small number of people who are on the fence. Naturally, there are also dissatisfied people. We are well aware of this. Therefore, we need to analyze this electoral cycle and draw conclusions; we also need to put certain things to rights. We don’t have many problems of this kind. We will fix them within a year. I am sure that even more people will show up to vote at the presidential election,” the head of state said.

“Although this will not be an easy process. As an expert in this matter, you understand that they will go out of their way to rock the boat here. But we are ready for this. We have prepared very well and are ready for the election that will take place in a year,” added Aleksandr Lukashenko.

A reminder, according to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, voter turnout in the 25 February elections exceeded 73%, and in some regions it was about 77%.
