Lukashenko: Belarusian State University is the history and future of Belarus

MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – Belarusian State University is not just a university, but the history and future of the country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said he as visited Belarusian State University (BSU).

The president noted that this meeting was initiated by the rector. “The topic is very relevant. I must say that not all of those sitting here in the front row were enthusiastic about my decision to come here and host this meeting. After all, this discussion, I hope, will touch upon some personalities. Some personnel decisions might be made. Therefore, I urge you to be absolutely open,” he said.

“BSU is more than a university. It is the history and future of the country. Founded during the formation of the Belarusian statehood, it has come to epitomize the scientific and industrial power of contemporary Belarus. Your projects are really cutting-edge. I knew that you were doing this, but I did not think that you had advanced to such a high level. We will draw the attention of our manufacturers to this, if necessary. I mean those people who use your research outputs to make their products. Although you have already done remarkable things. Especially in the field of space, drones, this is the future. And today’s conflict in Ukraine shows that such solutions hold a lot of promise.”

The head of state noted that he had recently met with his good friend and former head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin. “He told me many things, he will show and tell me a lot more. If our specialists, scientists have an interest in something, even some classified things, this person will be happy to share it with them. Maybe this will help them move in the right direction,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Addressing Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov, the head of state expressed confidence that BSU could compete with the country’s main scientific institution in the field of space, drones, and possibly electric vehicles. “We will support this competition,” he said.

The head of the National Academy of Sciences, in turn, noted that they work jointly with counterparts from BSU. “Since he says ‘jointly’, it means that he respects your developments and solutions, sees them as academic ones,” the head of state remarked.

He also noted that huge public funds had been invested in the upgrade of the university, and this money should be used in the interests of the country and its welfare system.
