MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The Belarusians have always stood by the Turkish people and will continue to do so, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Belarus Mustafa Özcan, BelTA has learned.

“First of all, I would like once again to express my condolences to the Turkish people, to you personally, to the president of the country in connection with the terrible tragedy that occurred in Türkiye. Believe me, Belarus condoles and sympathizes with you. This tragedy has been breaking our hearts all these days. You know that the president of our country, Aleksandr Lukashenko, was among the first to send condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Belarusian head of state immediately gave instructions to provide all kinds of earthquake relief. You know that our rescue workers participated in the rescue operations, they managed to save six people. Our guys worked selflessly - this is what our Turkish colleagues say. Of course, we tried to provide all possible assistance to the Turkish people. But most importantly, you should know that the Belarusian people are very peaceful. We always empathize with tragedies that happen in the world, because we understand how terrible it is when people die,” Natalya Kochanova said.

“I understand that now the Turkish people and the country as a whole are going through a difficult period,” the speaker added. “Our country is ready to support and lend a helping hand. We are ready to do everything we can for the Turkish people and your country. And therefore, once again, please accept my most sincere condolences. We have always stood by the Turkish people and will continue to do so,” the speaker added.
