Kochanova: Belarus, Türkiye are strategic partners

MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Türkiye have a special relationship of strategic partnership, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Belarus Mustafa Ozcan, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Türkiye have good, friendly relations. I would say, a special relationship of strategic partnership. This has been largely achieved due to the efforts of the leaders of our countries - Aleksandr Lukashenko and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” said Natalya Kochanova.

The speaker noted that both countries pursue a policy of defending interests of their peoples and preserving national traditions as sovereign and independent states.

The speaker recalled the meeting with the ambassador that took place after the tragic events in Türkiye. “We deeply sympathized with the Turkish people. We are sure that today the country is recovering from this terrible tragedy [the earthquakes],” she said. “Our rescuers participated in the search and rescue operations in Türkiye. Many received state awards for helping the Turkish people.” The chair of the Council of the Republic praised the contribution of the diplomat to increasing trade between the two countries and strengthening interstate and interparliamentary contacts. She also praised the effective work of friendship groups in Belarus and Türkiye.

“Now that we are witnessing attempts to divide the world along geopolitical lines, the inter-parliamentary work of members of the Council of the Republic, the deputy corps, parliamentarians in general is very important and is entering a completely new stage. We understand the important role of parliamentarians in the current political situation not only in our country, but also in the world as a whole,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.

The speaker noted that the election campaign has already begun in the country and expressed confidence that the new composition of the National Assembly will do everything to renew the friendship groups.

“I am sure that during your work in Belarus you fell in love with our country, our people. Wherever you work in your new position, I am sure you will be a good friend of our country, you will do everything to maintain and expand our good relations. There is a good foundation for this,” Natalya Kochanova remarked.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Belarus Mustafa Ozcan is completing his diplomatic mission in Belarus. He started working in Belarus on 15 January 2020.
