Importance of assimilating R&D in manufacturing in Belarus highlighted

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – It is import to advance science and especially to commercialize the things scientists offer, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked to scientists in Minsk on 9 February, BelTA has learned.

"Everything should be tailored for the benefit of a person - Belarusians and Belarus, our country," the head of state said. “Without science, there is no way forward. We need to do science and use the things you create.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that earlier the problem of assimilating scientific developments was pressing in the country. Scientists often complained that the real sector of economy and enterprises were reluctant to use domestic new developments. Then the president made a decision to put the head of the National Academy of Sciences in charge of this work. “The head of the Academy of Sciences is in change of scientific inventions. This is you domain you know what is needed and what is not. You make a decision and hold responsibility," the president explained. In the event of any disagreement, the final decision is made by the head of state. "But no one has ever addressed me as an arbitrator so far," the Belarusian leader said.

Chairman of the NAS Presidium Vladimir Gusakov explained that a transparent and effective system for assimilating scientific developments has been created in the country. "We have concentrated all the research in the country in 12 programs. Every task is expected to yield a result – a practical development and commercialization. We have this under strict control," he said.

"You have such a strict 'dictatorship', stricter than in the country," the president joked ironically and warned against discouraging scientists.

"On the contrary. The competition for participation in the programs is open. Everyone who wants to participate submits documents, undergoes an independent examination," the head of the NAS noted.
