Fight against fascism, neo-Nazism described as one of Belarus’ priorities

Fight against fascism, neo-Nazism described as one of Belarus’ priorities

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – The fight against fascism and neo-Nazism features large in our state policy, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich said during the 2nd International Anti-Fascist Congress taking place in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“In the current geopolitical situation, the protection of historical memory and our history becomes especially relevant. History shows that Belarus was one of European countries that suffered the most from Nazism during the Second World War. We lost every third resident. That is why the memory of the Great Patriotic War, its heroes, feats of the victorious people is reflected in the updated Constitution and the draft national security concept of the Republic of Belarus. Therefore, the fight against fascism and neo-Nazism is a priority of our state policy,” said Aleksandr Volfovich.

After the end of the Great Patriotic War, everyone believed that ‘the brown plague’ was crushed once and for all. “However, to our deepest regret, fascism and neo-Nazism have resurged. The ideas of fascism and its extreme form - Nazism - have found new followers in the most enlightened countries of the world. The history of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War in these countries was not just falsified, but completely rewritten, and this was being done purposefully for more than one decade,” the Security Council chief emphasized.

Minsk is hosting the 2nd International Anti-Fascist Congress. A plenary session and a breakout session will be held at the Central House of Officers on 18 August. Representatives of more than 30 countries are taking part in the forum. The Congress has convened at the initiative of the Defense Ministry and is designed to warn the world about the real threat of neo-fascism.
