Diplomat comments on status of Italian-Belarusian relations

Diplomat comments on status of Italian-Belarusian relations

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – In terms of Italian-Belarusian relations it is important to preserve the things we have achieved, Chargé d'Affaires of Italy to Belarus Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

"We have achieved a lot. The first thing is not to lose what we already have. These are travel, tourism, people-to-people contacts. This is the most important thing, and we are ready to work on this," the Italian diplomat stressed.

As for the further development of Belarusian-Italian relations, the diplomat noted that they should be expanded and brought to another level. "We invite small delegations here. We recently had a roundtable on agriculture at the Academy of Sciences. We have such projects, specific and operational. We need to work harder, we need to establish more contacts, and things will get better in the future," he said.

In addition to the agricultural industry, according to the diplomat, Italy may be interested in the industrial sector of Belarus. Italy is trying to support Belarusian importers of machines for wooden furniture production. Italy issues business visas for Belarusian entrepreneurs in order to establish bilateral contacts in this area.

"We are trying to support the export of our wines, our food here," the ambassador said. He noted that he would like to see Belarusian cheeses on the Italian market. "That would be very interesting," he said.

He lauded the highest quality of Belarusian dairy products both cheese, milk and sour cream, stressing that Belarus ranks fourth in the world in this sector. "We just need to work on specific things," Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani added.
