Belarus’ relations with Azerbaijan hailed

MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) - Belarus highly appreciates the relations with Azerbaijan, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Ulvi Bakhshaliyev on 3 November, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to congratulate you on the beginning of your diplomatic mission in Belarus. You started it in Belarus not long ago, but you have already been to our opening session, have held a number of meetings in our ministries, departments, have visited the regions and have, probably, felt those good feelings Belarus has in respect to your country and your people. We highly appreciate the relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan, and most importantly, that they have been developing positively in economy, politics, culture and education. Of course, an exceptional role in this is played by the presidents of our states. We understand that our main task is to preserve these relations and enhance them,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

According to the speaker, the MPs of Belarus and Azerbaijan interact very closely in the international arena. “We have the same views on many issues on the international agenda. I took part in the 2019 summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku. I heard and saw how important Azerbaijan's word is. We always hear the voice of Azerbaijani MPs in international parliamentary organizations such as PACE, OSCE. We are always grateful for the support your MPs give to Belarus, our parliament. Of course, we make steps in response. As for our bilateral relations, the pandemic will be over, and next year we have to organize meetings at the level of the leadership of the parliaments, at the level of chairpersons of standing committees and working groups. I think that in the nearest future, if you wish, we can organize your meeting with the working group, where we can determine the areas of our further cooperation and maybe even develop a roadmap on the directions we can follow,” he stressed.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that our countries have good rates of interaction in the economy. “In January-August 2021 mutual trade was $350 million. Despite the pandemic, the growth was 30%. Last year it was $447 million. This are solid figures. Your country is one of the 15 countries with which we have such trade,” the chairman of the House of Representatives added.

According to him, the countries can activate cooperation in industry and agriculture. “I know that you have already visited Nesvizh District and got familiar with agricultural production there. There are a lot of areas where we can work on education, culture, sports, tourism. I think that if we made such a roadmap, it would be great,” stated Vladimir Andreichenko.

“You have put it very clearly when you spoke about the relations between our countries. They are at a high level. The high level of trust between our presidents contributes to the expansion and further deepening of bilateral relations,” the ambassador added.

“I have been in Belarus for the second month already and have had time to hold a lot of meetings. There were trips to the regions. I got familiar with the machine-building and agricultural sector, which are currently the priority areas of our bilateral economic relations. I would like to emphasize the warmth and understanding that we see in our meetings. Despite the pandemic, trade between our countries is growing every year and this year we have already reached new levels. I think that by the end of the year, the growth that we have planned will match the pace set by our presidents,” he said.

Ulvi Bakhshaliyev added: “I would like to meet with the interparliamentary group, get to know all its members better and intensify its work.”
