MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - Coronavirus will not interfere with the further development of relations between Belarus and Georgia. They will not be frozen because of the pandemic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia said during an online conference organized by the National Press Center, BelTA has learned.

Georgia is looking forward to expanding  cooperation with Belarus, including trade and economic ties, the ambassador said. He is convinced that there are great opportunities to step up mutual trade, taking into account the interests of the two states.

The diplomat mentioned the existing difficulties with the logistics, which results in high prices for goods. Both sides are working to find the best ways to deliver goods to each other. Valeri Kvaratskhelia believes that countries have a lot of goods and services to exchange. He recalled that last year there was a good increase in the supply of Georgian wine and mineral water. As for services, many Belarusians visited Georgia and enjoyed the country’s picturesque nature and hospitality.

Journalists were also interested in the cooperation in the petrochemical sector. The diplomat said: “We have fallen behind here compared with cooperation in other areas, and we are very interested in working with Belarus in this as well as in other areas.

Ambassador Valeri Kvaratskhelia pointed out that Georgia uses Belarusian synthetic fiber in production of face masks.

He also stressed Georgia’s interest in Belarusian potassium but once again mentioned logistics that makes this more expensive. “If we develop logistics, the number of contracts will increase a hundredfold,” Valeri Kvaratskhelia said.

The ambassador noted that Georgia also eyes the Belarusian mechanical engineering industry. He spoke about the delivery of 13 Belarusian electric buses to Georgia after the Belarusian company won the tender. Moreover, Valeri Kvaratskhelia spoked about cooperation prospects with the Belarusian automobile engineering companies MAZ and BelAZ. “They know the way to Georgia,” he remarked.
