Varied program for Germany Weeks in Belarus

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – The program of the Germany Weeks in Belarus features around 30 diverse events, BelTA learned from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belarus.

The Germany Weeks opened with an exhibition of posters on 25 September. On the same day, several concerts were held in Minsk, including the concert at the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society that celebrated the 330th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach.

The forum will continue with evenings of German cinema that will open in Minsk on 28 September. Five recent and already popular German films will be screened at the Pobeda cinema house. The campaign has been organized by the German Embassy and the Goethe Institute.

The program of the Germany Weeks also features literary readings, theatrical performances, special forums for scholars and teachers, film screenings, exhibitions, and concerts.

This year, the celebrations of the Germany Weeks in Belarus will last for almost a month, until 24 October. The cultural campaign will mark the 25th anniversary of German reunification. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar believes that the year 2015 is full of significant anniversaries. “We should look towards the future and work to strengthen our friendship and partnership ties,” the diplomat stressed.

The cultural campaign Germany Weeks in Belarus has been organized by the Goethe Institute, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Central Office for German Schools Abroad, the Association of Germany's Community Adult Education Centers, the Institute for German Studies, the Minsk International Educational Center of Johannes Rau, and also Belarusian partners, universities, and the participants of the Schools: Partners for the Future initiative.

It has already become a good tradition to hold Germany Weeks in Belarus. The cultural forum was founded more than ten years ago. It is aimed at those who are interested in the German language and culture.
