Sabalenka returns to WTA No.2 after Australian Open win

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – After grabbing the victory in the 2023 Australian Open, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus rose back to world number 2 in the recently published WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.

Before the Australian Open the best Belarusian tennis player was ranked 5th and moved up three spots after her triumph in Melbourne. She currently holds 6,100 points. Aryna Sabalenka was world number 2 last year. 2023 Australian Open semifinalist Victoria Azarenka of Belarus moved from 24th to 16th position with 2,138 points. Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich goes 37th with 1,291 points.

Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas to win his 10th Australian Open title and return to world No.1 in the ATP. 2023 Australian Open finalist  Stefanos Tsitsipas is world number 3. Ilya Ivashka of Belarus goes 75th with 715 points.
