Raubichi to host IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in 2019
MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – The 2019 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships will take place in Belarus’ National Winter Olympic Training Center Raubichi. The decision was taken at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation.
The National Winter Olympic Training Center Raubichi was opened more than 40 years ago. In 2015 the center got an overall makeover. The complex has hosted many high-level competitions, including three biathlon world championships (in 1974, 1982, 1990). In 1999 Raubichi was the venue for the Summer Biathlon World Championships. After the renovations Raubichi hosted the 2015 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships. The Legends’ Race in Raubichi, which featured many prominent biathletes, was a success in 2015 and 2016.
The IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships are a regular event held since 1996. In 2016 the tournament was hosted by Estonia’s Otepaa. The 2017 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships will take place in Russia’s Tchaikovsky.
