Plans to launch Belarus-Russia Union State award in science, technology

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Union State intends to establish an award for achievements in science and technology, Chairman of Belarus’ State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin told the media on 15 November, BelTA informs.

“The Union State Council of Ministers is scheduled to convene on 8 December to discuss the launch of a Union State science and technology award, among other things. This is the initiative of Belarus. We believe that we should have such an award in the Union State so that we could encourage the best scientists and developers together with Russia every second year. This will become another impetus to draw attention to our developments and to our scientists,” Alexander Shumilin said.

The initiative will be considered at the first session of the commission on the Union State common science and technology space at Belarusian National Technical University on 15 November. The commission will also exchange views on expanding the list of joint projects that can be approved for implementation and financing after the discussion. “Subcommissions will be set up for key sectors in which Belarus and Russia have a solid background: industry, energy, healthcare, and petrochemistry,” Alexander Shumilin added.
