Nearly 10,000 runners register for 2023 Minsk Half Marathon

Nearly 10,000 runners register for 2023 Minsk Half Marathon

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) - About 10,000 runners from 16 countries have already registered for the 2023 Minsk Half Marathon, which will take place in the capital of Belarus on 10 September and will be one of the draws of the City Day celebrations, chief specialist of the sports and tourism department of the Minsk City Hall Tatiana Yarmolik told a press conference on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

In addition to representatives of the CIS countries, taking part in this large-scale sport event will be runners from Latvia, Estonia, the UK, Canada and other countries.

In total, the 2023 Minsk Half Marathon is expected to gather about 15,000 people. Last year it changed its format, and for the second time in a row the start line will be near the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium.

“Only a few changes have been made. The start line will be on Kirova Street, and the finish line will be on Ulyanovskaya Street with the entry to the stadium,” Tatiana Yarmolik said.

The program includes three distances: 5km, 10km and the 21km half marathon. The route will run along the central streets of the city. The 21km and 10km races will start at 9.00, the 5km race - at 12.00. A family race will feature the youngest runners and their parents perform a 1.4km race. The start time is 13.00, with children from 0 to 12 years old welcome to participate. “All the children will get medals at the finish line,” Tatiana Yarmolik said.

According to the organizers, Minsk Half Marathon is the best opportunity to get to know Minsk and its attractions, to breathe with the city in unison and feel its support. Participants can collect their event packs at the Dinamo Stadium on 7-10 September. The awards ceremony is due at the stadium on 10 September.

The first edition of Minsk Half Marathon took place in 2013. The 2019 race was a record-breaking event with more than 40,000 runners from 68 countries. In 2020, the traditional September event was canceled due to the epidemiological situation. In 2021, the half marathon made its comeback, although there were restrictions on the number of participants – not more than 10,000 runners. According to the participants, the quality of the event is improving every year.

Minsk Half Marathon is one of the largest sporting events in Belarus. It is a kind of a calling card of the Belarusian capital. “Residents are well familiar with this event. We invite everyone to take part. Everyone will surely enjoy it,” Tatiana Yarmolik said.
