Monument to Mulyavin unveiled in Yekaterinburg

MOSCOW, 6 October (BelTA) – A monument to the People's Artist of the USSR and Belarus, the founder of the famous Pesnyary band Vladimir Mulyavin was unveiled in Yekaterinburg on 6 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.

Participating in the ceremony were Belarusian Culture Minister Boris Svetlov, Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast Evgeny Kuyvashev, the Pesnyary band, leading figures of art and culture of the Middle Urals, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

"The opening of the monument is a big step towards the perpetuation of the memory of Vladimir Mulyavin, a native of Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg), who glorified Belarus by his art,” said Boris Svetlov.

"It is nice to see that that the Republic of Belarus and the Urals are bound by not only trade and economic ties. The presence of the distinguished guests from Belarus says about the significance of today's events. I hope we will continue to be mindful of our idols, whose music we have been listening from early childhood,” said Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev.

The monument has been made by a team led by sculptor Sergei Logvin. The sculpture is 3.5 meters high and depicts Vladimir Mulyavin in a concert suit and with an electric guitar in his hands.

The project to install the monument in Yekaterinburg has been implemented on the initiative of the Culture Ministry of the Republic of Belarus together with the administrations of Sverdlovsk Oblast and the city of Yekaterinburg, as well as the Yekaterinburg office of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.

Lunacharsky Boulevard street in Minsk has been renamed in Mulyavin Boulevard. A commemorative plaque was installed on the house in Yekaterinburg where the musician spent his childhood, and a commemorative star in honor of the artist and the Pesnyary band was laid down in front of the local Variety Theater.

In the evening on 6 October the Ural State Variety Theater will host a concert of the Pesnyary band which will play the most famous and beloved works of Vladimir Mulyavin.
