MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) - About 1500 participants are expected to take part in the sixth edition of Minsk Triathlon 2023, Chairman of the Belarusian Triathlon Federation Dmitry Tolkachev told reporters, BelTA has learned.

In addition to Belarusians, the event will draw athletes from several regions of Russia and also from the USA, China, Azerbaijan and other countries. The main program on Sunday, 30 July, will feature a 1,900m swimming event, 90km bicycle ride and a 21km run. The Minsk Triathlon 2023 program will also include the corporate relay races, the TriKids 500m children's race and Minsk Lady 3km Run.

The swimming competitions will traditionally be held on the Zaslavl water reservoir, the cycling route will pass along Pobediteley Avenue and Independence Avenue and the run route – along the Svisloch embankment through Victory Park with the finish line at the Sports Palace, Dmitry Tolkachev said.

He also noted that before the start, all participants will receive a special package, which will include a swimming cap, a backpack bag, a start number, an electronic mark chip and gifts from partners. At the finish line, the winners will receive medals and finishers' jerseys. All participants will be given the opportunity to receive a free transfer to the starting point and bicycle maintenance service on the eve and during the race.

Minsk Triathlon was first held in 2018, and its popularity has been growing since then. The first edition drew about 300 athletes. Today it is five times as more.

Triathlon was first included in the program of the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. At the Olympics, athletes swim 1,500m, cycle 40km and run 10km. This sport is considered one of the hardest, because athletes have to overcome distances in any weather. And it's not for nothing that triathletes are called iron men.
