Maxim Vengerov to guest perform in Minsk on 12 October

Legendary violinist Maxim Vengerov MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Minsk will welcome, for the first time, the legendary violinist Maxim Vengerov on 12 October who will perform in the Belarusian capital as part of the 8th International Yuri Bashmet Festival, BelTA learnt from the organizing committee of the festival.

Maxim Vengerov is acclaimed as a musician of the highest order. He has enjoyed a successful career throughout the world and has been internationally celebrated as a violinist, teacher and conductor. He plays with the best orchestras of the world and the most famous conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta.

When in Minsk the Maestro will perform famous romantic miniatures and masterpieces of the classical music. He will play Kreutzer 1727, one of four Stradivari violins with the sobriquet Kreutzer, and a bow, which previously belonged to Jascha Heifetz, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. The solo concert will take place in the Big Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society.

The 8th edition of the International Yuri Bashmet Festival will open in the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society on 2 October. First held in 2006, the festival is conducted under the auspices of the Belarusian President and is aimed at combining the creative forces of Belarus, Russia and other countries. The festival brings together outstanding artists of our time. Thanks to the festival young talented musicians have the opportunity to perform together with world famous artists on one stage.

The author of the idea of the Yuri Bashmet festival is the Belarusian pianist, winner of international competitions, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London Rostislav Krimer, who is also the arts director of the festival. People's Artist of Russia, winner of the state prizes of the USSR and Russia Yuri Bashmet is the honorary co-chairman of the organizing committee of the festival.
