In the Fog gets U.S. screenings

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) - Sergei Loznitsa's In the Fog movie got a theatrical release in the United States this weekend, BelTA learned from director general of the Belarusfilm national studio Oleg Silvanovich.

“For two days the rating of the movie totaled 3.5 out of 5, which we see as a good result. I must say that for the Belarusian movie to get to America is a colossal cultural achievement,” Oleg Silvanovich said.

In the Fog is currently showing in three theaters in Manhattan. The movie got a lot of attention from the audience and the press. For example, the New York Times did a great review on the psychological drama by the Belarusian director.

The powerful art project was directed by Sergei Loznitsa, who called the film a drama about a man trying to make a moral choice in immoral circumstances. It is 1942 and Belarus is under German occupation. Sushenya, an innocent rail worker, is arrested with a band of saboteurs when a train is derailed not far from his village. Captured by the partisans, he is led through the forest where they are ambushed. Soon he finds himself one-on-one with his wounded enemy.

The movie is based on the novel by the famous Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov. In the Fog is an international project involving Belarusfilm, MA.JA.DE Fiction (Germany), the film company "GP" (Russia), Rija Films Studio (Latvia), Lemming Film (Netherlands), ZDF/ARTE (Germany), European international fund Eurimages. Match Factory owns the right to global distribution of the movie.

The movie was awarded FIPRESCI, the top Cannes prize of the International Federation of Film Critics, the Grand Prix of the 16th International Film Festival in Trieste, the Grand Prix of the 22nd International Film Festival Zolotoy Vityaz in Khabarovsk, etc.

In the Fog will be showing in the United States for a month. After New York it will screen in other cities of the United States.
