Domracheva appointed UNDP Goodwill Ambassador

UNDP Administrator Helen Clark Darya Domracheva UNDP Goodwill AmbassadorMINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, during her visit to Belarus, named three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva UNDP Goodwill Ambassador. The appointment ceremony took place at the Minsk City Hall on 31 May, BelTA has learned.

World-renowned Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva will focus her UNDP activity on the popularization of a healthy lifestyle among Belarusian children and adults.

I am happy to welcome Darya as UNDP Goodwill Ambassador. The UNDP worldwide goal is to improve people’s lives and we are glad that Darya Domracheva will support us in our efforts. Darya’s huge popularity among Belarusian citizens and especially among the young generation makes me believe she will serve an example of healthy lifestyle for them, Helen Clark noted.

The athlete is a charity worker and helps sick children. The UNDP Administrator expressed confidence that the Olympic champion, in her new role, will inspire even more young people to live a healthy lifestyle and abandon bad habits.

Darya Domracheva noted that she used to be an outstanding supporter of healthy lifestyle promotion before. The biathlete is a bronze medalist of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. She is a two-time world champion (2012 and 2013), a three-time world silver medalist (2008, 2011 and 2012).
