Classic music to play at Minsk railway station

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Classic music will play at the central railway station of Minsk. The unusual music project started on 19 July and will go on till 25 August. The project will be a music gift for local residents and tourists from the festival Classic Music at the Town Hall with velcom, BelTA has learned from the organizers.

Famous pieces of classic music will be heard on railway platforms, near ticket boxes and in underground walkways till the end of the summer. Nine international trains will be welcomed by unique 25-second excerpts themed on the route of the train.

For example, the Berlin-Moscow train will be greeted by the overture to Richard Wagner’s opera Tannhдuser, the trains coming from Ukraine (Truskavets-Mogilev and Odessa-Minsk) will be welcomed by Mazurka di Bravura from Reinhold Gliere’s Taras Bulba. Music from the world-famous ballet The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky will play for passengers of trains arriving from Russia (Moscow-Brest, Novosibirsk-Minsk, and Arkhangelsk-Minsk). A melody from the symphonic poem Sea by Lithuanian composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis will welcome passengers of the Vilnius-Minsk train. A piece from the Vardar - Bulgarian Rhapsody by composer Pancho Vladigerov will mark the arrival of the Varna-Minsk train.

The Classic Music at the Town Hall project was launched on 14 July. The second concert will take place on 21 July. This time the event will highlight the world’s best operetta pieces. Taking to the stage of the country’s biggest classic open-air festival will be violinist Maimuna who represented Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Accompanied by the symphonic orchestra of the Music Theater she will perform compositions from popular musicals, movie themes and romantic ballads. The main conductor of the event will be Yuri Galyas.

The classic music concerts at the Town Hall will take place every Saturday at 20:30 and will go on till 25 August. All the seven concerts of the project will be broadcast live.

The project is organized by the Minsk City Hall and the Minsk Concert Agency. The entry is free.
